If you hang out with me on Instagram you probably know that I’ve been trying to up my veggie and fruit game! I didn’t have specific physique goals this year so this felt like a great goal to challenge myself to be healthier that has nothing to do with my physical appearance. Fruit has been pretty easy but as expected, veggies have proven to be a little more difficult. Thankfully I have the best green beans recipe to fall back on for the majority of my dinners.
I have adapted this recipe from my sister in law who makes the most delicious green beans for holidays! Hers has bacon in it but for the sake of being a little more macro friendly, I have adjusted slightly. The best part? This recipe is super easy and takes about 15 minutes or less to make. According to the farmer’s almanac, green beans are a “good source of vitamin C, dietary fiber, folate, vitamin K, and silicon (needed for healthy bones, skin and hair)” I love that for us! We can be healthy queens together, y’all.
What You Need For Easy Sautéed Green Beans:
Single serving
- 1 cup of fresh green beans
- 1/8 cup of red onion (or however much you like)
- 1 pat of butter (or bacon grease if you have it)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- Sea salt, pepper, & a seasoning of your choice (I like Old Bay or a Cajun)
Directions:
- Trim the ends of the green beans and cut each one in half
- Julienne red onion, meaning slice into thin strips
- Heat skillet over medium heat
- Add enough butter or bacon grease to coat the bottom of the skillet
- Once melted add green beans to pan and cook for 5-6 minutes.
- You want the green beans to begin to soften.
- Next add red onions, salt, pepper, and seasoning of choice to taste and reduce heat slightly (think lowering from a 4 to a 2 on your stovetop)and cook for 2-3 minutes until onions become almost translucent.
- Add 1tsp of minced garlic and reduce heat to low. Cook for another 2 minutes.
And that’s it folks! You have the easiest and most delicious sautéed green beans ever. You can use olive oil if you prefer but if I have bacon grease I most definitely use it.
