The thought of spending a ton of money on decor that’s only up for 6 weeks can be daunting… especially when you’re already anticipating spending money on gifts. I know I am not alone in this, so I wanted to share some easy Christmas decor on a budget! Back in college, we decorated our apartment exclusively in Dollar Tree Decor and it was as cute as can be. And while I’ve upgraded a little since then, most of the Christmas decorations in my house are still very budget friendly.
I have shared and linked some of the Christmas decor items we have in our house as well as some other ideas for things that are budget friendly will make your home look festive!

Simple decor that’s super budget friendly:
You’ll want to pick up these simple Christmas decor items first. This way you can get an idea of how much more decor you need to buy as well as how much more you’d like to spend! These items are things that do not need to be high quality in order to make your house festive.
Table Cloths:
If you have kids or even messy eaters, vinyl table cloths are the more budget friendly option at only a couple dollars. If you want something a little higher quality, spring for a cotton table cloth for around $12-$15. I put a picture of ours below. If we had a rectangular table I would definitely go with a cute Christmas table runner instead! I linked some cute runners and table cloths in the picture below.
Santa Hat Chair Covers:
Do I think these make my house look like it’s from a Homes & Garden magazine? No. But they’re super cute and festive and you can’t beat the price! The fact is, when you’re buying Christmas decor on a budget, you need to buy inexpensive items that take up space. Meaning, you don’t have to spend a lot for more surface area of your home to be decorated.
I bought these back in college at the Dollar Tree. They only last about 2 years before they get holes in them but I keep replacing them because it’s such an easy decor addition to my dining room.
Note: You can only buy in bulk online for the Dollar Tree so if you’re looking to buy your decor online, I linked similar ones on Amazon here! They’re a little more expensive than $1 a piece but still budget friendly.
Garland:
You can use it on more than just your Christmas tree. You don’t need to know where it’s going, you’ll find a place. That’s my motto for garland and lights! You can always find a place for them and they are the peak of Christmas festiveness.
We just draped ours over our kitchen window. It’s nothing fancy but its a simple and easy way to add a little sparkle! We got ours from Hobby Lobby but it’s actually cheaper on Amazon and you can get even more of it. I linked it here!
Lights:
We had an extra string of lights lying around this year so now they’re draped over my office window and it made my office that much cozier. In college we hung lights where the ceiling and the wall meet in our living room. It was the cheapest way to make the entire room Christmas-y. And of course, in true college fashion, we kept them up all year long. LOL….simpler times. Not only is hanging lights inexpensive, but all you need is a some nails and a hammer which is ideal if you’re not too handy!
If you want to get a little fancier and more creative than just hanging lights, check out this idea below! Combine lights, garland, and ribbon to frame out your front door. Click here to buy your 100 count clear Christmas lights.
Towels:
Hobby Lobby and Amazon both have tons of choices for Christmas towels. I’ve linked the paw print one we have from Hobby Lobby in the picture below. If you want to get the most bang for your buck, consider buying just red or green towels. That way you can use them after the holiday season.
Centerpiece:
You probably have a vase lying around your house somewhere! Fill it with silk Christmas flowers, artificial red berries, “iced” branches, etc. If the vase is big enough, you can even buy mini plastic ornaments from the dollar tree to fill the bottom of the vase.
Now on to the slightly more expensive decor:
Throw pillows:
Throw pillows don’t have to be expensive but they can be. Hobby Lobby and Target have some options that are pretty inexpensive! Luckily you only need a couple. I’ve linked some options below. Another idea is to buy Christmas pillow covers if you already have throw pillows. This is the most budget friendly option. If I would have realized this idea sooner, I would have done it myself.
Christmas rugs:
I love simple y’all. Minimum effort, maximum jolly-ness! I linked some cute ones from amazon below.
Christmas wall decor:
I was kind of hesitant to buy any wall decor because I didn’t want to put any unnecessary holes in the walls. But I decided to get a couple pieces and they’ve made our house look so cute. The cute snowman sign pictured below is from Kirklands. Kirklands can get pricy but this one is only $20.99! You can also consider buying wall decor that will fit on nails/screws that you already have pictures hanging on, and just swap them out for the season.
And lastly, some slightly craftier decor!
I am not big on getting too crafty, but if you can manage it, you can save a ton of money! The largest “part” of my Christmas decor is my snow globe collection. This year I built a Christmas-y scene around it. While building such a collection isn’t necessarily budget friendly, you don’t have to do snow globes.
This year my mom (aka the queen of decor) helped me make the snow globe collection more of a scene and it’s easily my favorite part of my house right now! We bought fake snow, battery operated lights, and a couple glittery Christmas trees and reindeer statues. Hobby Lobby has TONS of small knick knack like Christmas decor items that you could buy if you don’t have snow globes! I made my scene on my kitchen bar top but this could be done on shelves or even the floor if you don’t have animals (or kids) to terrorize it.
Here’s some mini frosted Christmas trees from Amazon that are only $11.99 for a 30 piece set!
These are the large glitter trees pictured in the video above from Hobby Lobby!
I hope you got some new budget friendly Christmas decor ideas! I am wishing you the jolliest and coziest holiday season, friends.

Thanks for the ideas shared on the blog. Another thing I would like to express is that weight loss is not supposed to be about going on a celebrity diet and trying to get rid of as much weight as you’re able in a set period of time. The most effective way to lose weight naturally is by consuming it bit by bit and using some basic recommendations which can allow you to make the most from a attempt to shed pounds. You may know and be following some tips, but reinforcing expertise never hurts.

The throw pillow covers are so smart! I loved all your ideas. My Christmas decor budget is a bit smaller than normal since we just got our floors refinished. But I feel like I can still create a new look with these budget-friendly tips, thanks!
