When you first move into a home, it can feel just like a random house for awhile. It doesn’t have that warm, “lived in” feel yet. Maybe you have traveled the world and your home has been hotel rooms. Or, maybe you were in college and couldn’t afford to decorate your home the way you wanted to right away. The reason your house doesn’t quite feel like a home yet, doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is taking action and doing something about it to give you that homey, cozy vibe you’re after. Everyone deserves a place they can feel at home in and I hope that this post helps you achieve that. Below are 5 easy ways to make a house feel like a home!
Bring Your Previous Furniture
Okay, let’s get started with my first tip: bring your previous furniture. When you buy or rent a new house, you are going to want to bring in familiar items such as your couches and bed. Not only does it make it more cozy, but it immediately makes it feel more like yours – more like home. I know that it can be easy to go out and buy furniture to give your home a fresh, new feel, but hold off on it until your home feels more like yours. It’s a good feeling to sit on your familiar couch when you’re just getting used to your new home.
Add Cozy Elements
Bringing in your furniture such as your bed and couches will definitely make your home cozy, but let’s kick it up a notch, especially now as the weather is starting to cool down a bit (even though it’s never really freezing in Florida). Even with Florida weather, having a fireplace is still great. If you do have one, I suggest creating a fire, grabbing some new blankets, a winter scented candle or two, and some Christmas decorations to make your home super cozy. Nothing says “home” to me more than a cozy evening snuggled up in front of a fire!
Do An Easy Improvement Project
In order to make your house feel more like a home, I recommend doing an easy home improvement project, when you have the time. Make sure you don’t take on anything that you can’t handle yourself, but if you do something simple such as painting furniture, painting the walls, working on the landscape, or even adding Faux Brickwork as kitchen backsplash, you will fall even more in love with your home. In my opinion, when you put a little bit of work and sweat into something, it makes it feel even more special to you, which is why it’s the perfect way to make your house feel more like your space.
Faux Brickwork is a company based out of Clearwater, Florida. Their Faux Brick panels have the potential to immediately transform a space, making it more “you.” They are the leader in the supply of Faux Brick to the domestic and commercial world, providing exceptionally authentic looking brickwork to suit any setting. Spend A Weekend In/Give It Time
Sometimes, you just have to give it time. Your house will eventually feel like a home to you – it may just take a while. If you are just moving in, once you have all of the boxes unpacked and the house clean, make it a goal to spend an entire weekend in.You will get to know it more, you will feel more comfortable in it (especially at night!), and you will grow to love it. Once you do this, explore your new neighborhood, as well. This will help you learn to love the location that your home is in.
Fill It With The Ones You Love
Last but not least, and the most important step to me, is filling your home with the ones you love. Give yourself time to make memories with your favorite people. It’s easy for a house just to feel like a place to sleep when your loved ones haven’t visited. When you bring in your family and fill your space with laughter and love, it automatically makes it feel so much more like your HOME and not just a house.
