Fitness Instagram Accounts You Must Follow

Share with your friends!

It’s a scary world on the ‘gram! There are so many fitness Instagram accounts that are ill informed. When you’re new to fitness, it can be extremely difficult to navigate through what is quality information and what is crap. And you can quickly end up wasting your time. When I first started on my fitness journey I had a very basic understanding of weightlifting. I turned to fitness Instagram accounts to give me ideas and inspiration for different workouts.

Through this Instagram exploration, I’ve stumbled across a few really amazing fitness accounts that you must follow. These are my tried and true favorites. They provide amazing content, solid workouts, legitimate information, and a little motivation when you need it!

1. Katie Crewe

Katie is number 1 on my list for a reason. She is my absolute favorite! Her workout videos are clear, informative, and she mainly sticks to the basics of weightlifting (because that’s what actually produces results.) She gives great tips on form and modifiers. Occasionally she does try on hauls on her Instagram stories that are silly and lighthearted. In addition to gym workouts, she provides at home, bodyweight, and hotel gym exercises too.

Katie is my favorite because she regularly reminds her followers that she has been lifting for 8 years! Referencing that her results didn’t come over night… a reminder we all need. She emphasizes how truly badass it is to be able to do hard things, and rarely ever mentions her physical appearance in her reasoning for working out. I have shared her fitness Instagram videos on my own Instagram stories and she has responded back to me a few times. She truly takes time for her followers. I could go on and on.

Also, she has another Instagram page called “creweskitchen” where she gives realistic diet advice and recipe videos!

2. Bret Contreras AKA The Glute Guy

He is the world’s foremost expert on glute training! It’s no mystery why I follow him. Of course a ton of his videos and research are about maximizing glute gains, he does post more than just booty workouts. Bret is the fitness Instagram account you need to follow for science backed research and seriously helpful and specific form tips. I actually started following him because Katie Crewe referenced him in her videos a few times. It’s no BS with Bret, just quality information. He has some glute activation videos on youtube that have changed the game for my leg/glute days.

3. Hannah Bower

Hannah is a new-ish mom and avid proponent that there is more to life than working out. Her little family is super cute so it’s a sweet bonus to following her. She gives a mix of gym workouts and at home workouts, mentioning that with a 1 year old and a husband that travels for work, it can be hard to get to the gym. She promotes self love, giving yourself grace, and touches on motherhood challenges as well. Like Katie, she recognizes the importance of feeling strong over just physical aestethics.

4. Kathryn and Kendra

Kathryn and Kendra are identical twins! I really can’t tell them apart and Ive been following them for awhile. Truthfully, I love their account because they are badasses. They are jacked and they don’t shy away from heavy weight because they’re women. They are huge proponents of the basics of lifting as well as eating to fuel their bodies.

5. Krissy Cela

Krissy is one of the first fitness accounts I started following. In my opinion, she’s got very close to an “ideal” body which can be great inspiration. She posts a good mix of gym work outs as well as full body circuits and at home workouts. She also provides good tips on form as well as a variety of exercises when you want to mix up your routine. A lot of her videos have subtitles so if you’re looking for a shoulder workout, you can see which ones are for shoulders right from her Instagram grid instead of having to click around. She just launched her own program and app. While I’ve never tried it, it seems like a great starting point for those who are new to fitness.

Bonus!

6. Stephanie Buttermore

Stephanie is a bonus because her workout and diet videos are predominantly on Youtube, rather than Instagram. However, she still posts fitness related content on Instagram that I enjoy. She’s very transparent about her fitness journey and life altogether which I really appreciate. All of her content and Youtube videos are largely backed by research as she has her Ph.D She does “cheat day” videos on Youtube that I absolutely love watching. It’s unbelievable how much she can eat in a single day. Really I enjoy them because watching them is what showed me that an indulgent day or even weekend will not ruin all your progress. She films follow ups to her cheat days where she weighs in after. She emphasizes that once she gets back to her normal diet and exercise, she is back down to her pre cheat day weight in just a couple days.

Also, she has a food review page called “stephshallowleg” where she tries food from the U.S as well as internationally through traveling. Y’all know I am a foodie so I love this page too!

Be careful who you follow…

Besides just poor information, it’s crucial to follow fitness Instagram accounts that teach and inspire. It’s really easy to get discouraged about your own progress or body when you’re following tons of really fit and confident people. So, be weary. These accounts have made a big impact on my fitness journey so I wanted to share them in the hopes they will help y’all too!
