Sometimes I write blog posts about what I think my readers need to hear. Sometimes I write blog posts about what I need to hear. This blog post is the latter but, you just might need to hear it too. When motivation wears off and doubts creep in, we can all use a reminder to keep going. For most of us, long term goals are notoriously harder to stick with. When it comes to my long term goals, I crave evidence that what I am doing is working and I am not wasting my time. I talk about it in more depth in this blog about letting go of the hypothetical timeline of your life.
Since I have been on this personal growth journey, I’ve learned that I need to constantly remind myself not to give up on the goals that feel like they’re “taking too long.” I rounded up my favorite quotes for achieving long term goals so you can refer back when you need them because girl… we need you to go after those big dreams.

“The time will pass anyway”
Going back to school to become a doctor is going to take awhile. Losing 50 pounds will likely takes months or even years. In a month, you could have month of progress or a month of excuses. It’s harsh but it’s true. Whether it takes you one year or ten years, you might as well go for the big dream because the time is going to pass anyway.
“The point of goals isn’t to achieve them. The point is who you become on the way to them.”
I am going to edit and say that achieving the goal is at least part of the point. But who you become in the pursuit of those goals is more important. It is taking exactly as long as it needs to because you are becoming the person you need to be to achieve it. The journey is where knowledge, confidence, growth, and memories come from. You can’t achieve the long term goal without a journey that makes you better.
“The length of your journey may exist just to show others what is possible.”
Part of my ability to go for my big dreams was the idea that I could potentially inspire other women to do the same. In her book, “Girl, Wash Your Face” Rachel Hollis talks about how we need to go after our big dreams and long terms goals so that we can be a trailblazer to light the way for other women. It spoke to me so deeply. I realized I needed to pursue my audacious dreams so that I could show my real life and online girlfriends and my potential future daughters what is possible.
“You cannot fail as long as you just keep going.”
You hear it all the time. When successful people are asked what they attribute their success to, it’s almost always their persistence and resilience. They get back up and they keep trying and that’s what sets them apart from others.
I like to remind myself of a couple things in regards to this specific quote. 1. I didn’t get this far to only get this far. There is a past version of myself that would not believe the success I have had in pursuit of my goals. And 2. I am on the exact timeline and journey that I am supposed to be. Everything that is meant for me will happen so long as I keep trying.
God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called.
I spoke about having a calling on your heart in my previous blog post about what to do when you haven’t found your passion. For me the calling on my heart is inspiring women to grow in their life and relationships by giving realistic and relatable advice. I believe this calling was put on my heart for a reason. So much so that it felt like I could not ignore it. I read this quote and it immediately felt like it went hand in hand with pursuing big dreams. It’s easy to begin doubting yourself and your abilities when achieving the goal feels like it will take too long. But I believe the journey to achieving my long term goals is where I become “qualified.”
Your dream was put on your heart for a reason too. Just keep going. When things get a little shaky and you question whether or not you can really do it, focus on the next step and the next best decision. And, if you need a little inspiration and motivation, come back here and re-read these quotes.
You can achieve those big dreams, friend.
